About the Business

Ravi Sohal is our resident Optometrist. He graduated from the University of Cardiff in 2001, and was awarded the title MCOptom by the College of Optometrist in 2002. He is registered with the General Optical Council (GOC), the Association of Optometrist (AOP), the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) and the National Health Service (NHS). Ravi's training and experience involved working in high street optical practices and within the NHS hospital eye service. He received extensive training in contact lenses, ocular disease and vision correction.

In 2003 Ravi started working on a part-time basis at the Blackheath Eyecare Centre. When the owners retired he took over the practice with the support of his family and friends. Ever since Ravi's ownership the practice has undergone extensive modernisation. He has made a significant investment in technology and continues to do so. We have implemented the latest digital imaging equipment, computerised test charts and visual field equipment.

Eyecare for Children

Eyecare for Children

Making sure your child is healthy inside and out is something almost every parent strives to do. So why leave out the windows to their souls? If a vision or eye health problem exists but is left undetected, it can worsen and cause irreparable damage. These issues can also create behavioral or academic problems. After all, up to 90% of what your child learns comes from what they see!

A new born child is typically checked at birth to make sure his or her eyes are working correctly. However, new born babies are not yet able to distinguish fine details. By six months, vision improves tremendously. He or she is now able to recognize you, make eye contact, and recognize shapes etc. Although his or her vision has improved, your child’s eyes are still not fully developed. This generally happens around the age of six. With this being said, any underlying eye condition that has gone undetected is much more difficult to treat after this age.

  • Fixing displaced spectacle lenses.

These are mostly done quickly and simply on the premises. For patients who have purchased our spectacles we will normally provide this service free of charge. However, there maybe a charge for replacement parts if needed. If we have to send your frames to our lab for repairs we will inform you of any charges payable.
