In July 1953, commencement of a Private House Practice began at our home in Saltburn. We had the lounge converted into a Consulting room and a waiting room area was constructed in the spacious hallway; including a timber and glass screen and a display for spectacle frames and glazed samples. Demand for appointments during normal hours was not great and we realised that we were living in a commuter area and the patients were travelling on weekdays to Redcar and Middlesbrough much as I had done myself.

I attempted a session one day a week in a private house in Marske using mobile equipment. However this turned out to be unsuccessful due to the situation being to close to the shops in Redcar.
